Position Summary

MFM Health is looking for a strategic and patient-centered Director of Operations for Specialty Departments. The right candidate will demonstrate strong operational and communication skills with the ability to manage complex, multi-department service lines. The Director oversees day-to-day operations, financial performance, staffing, workflows, compliance, and patient experience across assigned specialty departments, including Behavioral Health, Endocrinology, Nutrition, Diabetes Education, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Dermatology, Gynecology and Women's Health, and Orthopedics. 

Working in close collaboration with the executive team, physician leadership, specialty administrators, and operational partners across MFM Health, the Director will play a key role in building and strengthening a cohesive, integrated care ecosystem. This role ensures that specialty care, primary care, and ancillary service departments work together in a coordinated, team-based approach—enhancing communication, care continuity, and patient outcomes. As MFM Health continues to expand its specialty offerings, this position supports the thoughtful integration of new services into the broader MFM Health care delivery system.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

Operational Leadership & Care Integration

  • Provide strategic and day-to-day operational leadership for all specialty departments, ensuring efficient workflows, consistent standards, and high-quality patient care.
  • Promote strong collaboration and care integration between specialty services, primary care, and ancillary departments to support a coordinated, team-based patient experience.
  • Oversee scheduling practices, provider templates, staffing coverage, access metrics, and patient flow to optimize continuity of care and operational performance.
  • Serve as a central operational connector across MFM Health, proactively identifying and resolving barriers to cross-department collaboration.
  • Act as the primary escalation point for specialty operational issues, resolving challenges and partnering with executive leadership as appropriate.

Financial & Performance Management

  • Lead development of annual specialty department budgets in collaboration with the COO and Finance team.
  • Monitor and analyze financial and operational performance, including revenue, expenses, productivity, utilization, and access metrics.
  • Implement corrective actions and process improvements to support financial sustainability and enterprise performance goals.
  • Evaluate resource needs, including staffing, equipment, technology, and space, with consideration for shared infrastructure and cross-department dependencies.

Staffing Leadership & Workforce Development

  • Provide leadership, coaching, and accountability for specialty clinical leaders, administrative staff, and clinical support teams.
  • Partner with HR and executive leadership to develop staffing models that support coordinated, team-based care delivery.
  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management for specialty operations teams.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, engagement, communication, and continuous improvement across specialty, primary care, and ancillary teams.

Provider Partnership & Cross-Department Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary operational liaison between specialty providers, primary care teams, and administrative leadership.
  • Address provider needs related to scheduling, workflows, staffing support, space, and operational resources.
  • Support provider workforce planning, recruitment efforts, and onboarding readiness for new and expanding specialty services.
  • Ensure operational preparedness for new providers and services with a focus on alignment across departments.

Compliance, Quality & Patient Experience

  • Ensure specialty operations comply with regulatory requirements, payer guidelines, accreditation standards, and organizational policies.
  • Support clinical quality initiatives and enterprise patient experience goals in collaboration with clinical leadership.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain standardized operational policies, procedures, and best practices across specialty departments.
  • Monitor patient experience data, complaints, and feedback, and lead operational improvement initiatives to enhance care coordination and satisfaction.

Strategic Planning, Growth & Continuous Improvement

  • Collaborate with the executive team on specialty expansion and integration of new services into the MFM Health care ecosystem.
  • Lead operational planning for new specialty offerings, including workflow design, staffing models, space planning, and readiness assessments.
  • Identify opportunities to improve access, efficiency, scalability, and collaboration across specialty, primary care, and ancillary services.
  • Lead implementation of system enhancements, process improvements, and cross-department operational initiatives.
  • Prepare analyses, reports, and recommendations to support executive decision-making and long-term planning.

External Collaboration & Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with hospital partners, referral sources, and specialty networks.
  • Support referral workflows, care coordination processes, and external partnerships that strengthen continuity of care across the broader care community.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • 5–10 years of healthcare operations or practice management experience, preferably in integrated or multi-department settings
  • 3–5 years of leadership experience overseeing multiple functions or departments
  • Experience supporting service-line growth and operational integration
  • Proficiency with EMR systems and Microsoft Office applications

Compensation

Salary Range: $135,000 – $170,000 annually
